We were going to hike on Chumash trail without realizing it becomes Mugu Peak trail, which we ended up doing and enjoyed. Free parking lot is at the trailhead as well as some street parking on PCH. At 9.30AM Wed, the parking area was about 90% full. Chumash trail is all uphill going, but provided the expansive views of Point Mugu marsh Hike Mugu Peak Loop via Chumash Trail. This is the second time I've made this mistake, and I've regretted it both times. The problem is that I tell myself I'm only going to go on a short little hike, which never ends up being the case, because once I start hiking I don't want to ever. Not to be confused with the Chumash Trails of Point Mugu and Simi Valley, the Chumash Indian Trail is an unmaintained but authorized route, leading southwest from the Zuma Ridge Motorway. As of this writing the lower portion of the trail is in very poor shape and not recommended, but the uppermost half mile, while overgrown, is easily navigable At this point the trail reaches a saddle and starts to level off a bit.
